Languages

The courses are held in English and/or in Spanish.

While students can express themselves in the language they prefer (including French and Italian), reading and listening comprehension of both English and Spanish is indispensable.

Target Groups

Students with a graduate degree and intending to start a doctoral program in the fields of jurisprudence or political philosophy for which a postgraduate degree is required.

Lawyers (solicitors, judges, and public officials working on national or international levels in relation with the protection of human rights.

Academics (teachers and researchers) who wish to broaden their understanding of constitutional democracy and global rule of law.

Managers of NGOs or private companies who wish to acquire theoretical and practical means for improving their professional performance.

The residential session in the duration of four weeks between January 20th and February 15th, 2014 will take place in Imperia (Italy) and will consists of eight courses given by some of the best international experts in the field:

Every student shall participate in ten on-line courses chosen from a list of sixteen courses offered by the program. The courses will be given through an internet platform in three different sessions of about two months (from November 4th to December 22nd, 2013; from March 10th to April 20th, 2014; and from May 12th to June 22nd, 2014). Participants will be asked to read and discuss some key texts chosen by the lecturer(s), and/or to write short papers for evaluation.

In order to be awarded the post-graduate degree of Advanced Master in “Global Rule of Law and Constitutional Democracy”, each student shall present a final dissertation, which is meant to manifest the candidate’s capacity of engaging in individual research on one of the subject matters connected to the program. Each student will be assigned two supervisers who will follow and advice on the work for the Master thesis based on a previously approved research project.

The thesis shall not exceed 150.000 characters (about 50 pages). The deadline for submitting it is October 25th, 2014. It will be assessed by a commission appointend by the Scientific Committe of the program.

Elaboration of a Master Thesis
 

The program is divided into five sessions: three of them will be devoted to distant (on-line) courses, one to residential courses taught on Genoa University's Campus in Imperia, and one to individual research culminating in a master thesis as the final step for obtaining the master's degree.

The courses will be held in English and/or in Spanish. Reading comprehension of both languages is necessary, whereas for oral and written communication students may also use Italian or French if they prefer.
